#Unique #PurifiedEssences
Diablo 4 Season 11 is filled with mysteries, like the Unique Purified Essences. Initially, these seem to be the items you take to Hadriel to unlock the Purified Slots for your Divine Gifts. However, players have been noticing that more of them continue to drop as they fight the Lesser Evils scattered throughout Sanctuary. At first, we thought this was just a bug, and Blizzard would correct it.
We know now, thanks to community efforts, and some of my own exploration, that Diablo 4 Season 11’s Unique Purified Essences do have a purpose, but that has not been made clear. Once we find the final altar, and figure out what they do, we’ll update accordingly, but we can share the information we have right now.
Note: Some of this is still very much a mystery, but the community is working on it. When we can update this, we will.
What to do with Unique Purified Essences in Diablo 4
As you fight Diablo 4’s Lesser Evils in Season 11, they will occasionally drop Unique Purified Essences. There’s one for Andariel, Duriel, Azmodan, and Belial, and each of them appear to correspond to a mystery altar somewhere out in the world. Several of them appear to be near the location where their in-game event takes place for the season.

If you take these Unique Purified Essences to their appropriate altar, it will light up with flames, but nothing else will happen at this time. It’s possible that you need all four, and need to light all of them up for something special to happen. As of this writing, the Altar of Sin, Anguish, and Lies have all been found. The Altar of Pain still eludes the community.
Rest assured that they aren’t a bug, and they are used for something in-game. We’re looking high and low to find it as we speak, as I’m sure the D4 Secret Finders Discord is as well. You can get these Purified items by defeating the following bosses:
- Andariel in the Undercity
- Azmodan in Hawezar
- Belial in The Pit
- Duriel in Helltides
Locations of the Altars for Unique Purified Essence in Diablo 4
1) Altar of Anguish

The Altar of Anguish is found in Nahantu, Seven Stones Region on the map above. Ride from either the Kurast Docks or Samuk, though I believe Kurast Docks are closer. Feed it the Purified Claw of Andariel to light up the altar.
2) Altar of Lies

The Altar of Lies is found in Fractured Peaks, Seat of the Heavens on the map above. Ride from the Bear Tribe Refuge, and head east until you find the location we’ve pinged. You will find a mysterious green altar here, and you use the Purified Eye of Belial here.
3) Altar of Sin

The Altar of Sin is found in Hawezar, Umir Plateau shown on the image above. It’s easiest to just ride from Hawezar, and ride northeast, instead of going down to face off against Azmodan like you normally would. Give it the Purified Tongue of Azmodan to trigger the light on the altar.
4) Altar of Pain
Unfortunately, we do not know where the Altar of Pain is right now in Diablo 4 Season 11. Once we’ve figured this out, we should better know how to solve this unfortunate mystery.
