Dani Busboom Kelly made her feelings known about receiving a major honor

Dani Busboom Kelly was recently honored with the Big Ten Coach of the Year award during her first season with the Huskers. She joined the team on January 29, 2025, after the retirement of the former coach, John Cook. She opened up about this honor in an interview with Hail Varsity after the team’s second-round win at the NCAA volleyball championships.

The 40-year-old stated that it is not an individual award and credited her team for achieving this major honor. In addition to this, she also mentioned the hard work of Cook, saying:

“There’s obviously…it’s not really an individual award. I know it says it is, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it this year. So, with the staff and the job they’ve done, and you know, John leaving a great team and at a time when he knew that we could be really successful, it just means a lot, but it really doesn’t feel like I was the Big 10 coach of the year. It feels like the Big 10 staff or um group of the year, whatever you want to call it. what seems like this team’s,” said Dani Busboom Kelly. (2:30 onwards)

Dani Busboom Kelly exuded pride in the Nebraska volleyball team and its staff after they won the Big Ten title this season. Before coaching the Nebraska Huskers, she was the head coach of the University of Louisville Cardinals women’s volleyball team.
