Chris Godwin and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a disappointing 29-28 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. Before kickoff, the wide receiver had a special moment with his wife, Mariah.

Godwin walked up to the sidelines where his wife Mariah was waiting during pregame warmups. The two embraced and shared a kiss as she wished him well ahead of the start of the game.

In honor of Thursday night’s throwback game, Mariah Godwin wore a creamsicle Tampa Bay Buccaneers crewneck sweatshirt. The sleeves of the sweatshirt featured an image of the original Buccaneers logo and helmet.

Despite the loss, it was a productive evening for Godwin who had four catches for 20 yards along with a touchdown and a two-point conversion catch.

The loss puts the Buccaneers in a precarious position in the NFC South standings. The Buccaneers are now 7-7 and the Carolina Panthers are 7-6, coming off a bye and will face the New Orleans Saints in Week 15.

Chris Godwin’s wife Mariah celebrated his return after nearly a year away from the game

In Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, Chris Godwin sustained a serious ankle injury that ended his season. The former Penn State standout worked for months to get back into game shape and finally did so in Week 4 of this season.

His wife, Mariah Godwin, celebrated his return with a heartfelt message on Instagram. Commending her husband for his hard work and how special it was to have their son, Ace, who was born last year, at the game for his return.

“342 days. This is year 16 of me watching you play ball & the SECOND TIME I’ve watched you rebuild your body & your game from the ashes, from lying on the couch post major surgery & not even being able to walk. This time, it took us through the longest period that you’ve not played football since you started as a child – 342 days. I wish people could see every bit of what you’ve put into this, what your character really holds when not a single person is watching.”

Mariah continued, “I think it’s evident even when they can’t see, though, & I know that that measure of character – of looking yourself in the mirror & knowing you are who you believe you are – is so important to you. I mean it when I say it’s a *gift* to be by your side in this lifetime & witness all that you are. & a gift to share your return on Sunday with our son, with our Ace!”

After his return in Week 4, Chris Godwin then missed time again in Weeks 6 through 11 after suffering a leg injury. In six games this season he has 20 receptions for 214 yards and one touchdown.
