WWE Monday Night RAW General Manager, Adam Pearce, gave a dressing down to Gunther this week. The two met backstage after Gunther cut a demeaning promo on John Cena, saying that he made him tap out like a b*tch. Not only Adam Pearce, but R-Truth and AJ Styles were also miffed with Gunther for being so disrespectful toward the 17-time WWE Champion.
So, to teach Gunther a lesson, Adam Pearce can bring a long-time nemesis of The Ring General. He’s none other than Sami Zayn. One must not forget that it was Sami Zayn who ended Gunther’s longest Intercontinental title reign at WrestleMania 40. Zayn defeated Gunther at Mania last year, ending his reign after 666 days.
Thanks for the submission!
The two met in a match later in October 2024, in which Gunther defeated Sami Zayn. Their current record stands at 1-1. Adam Pearce can contact Sami Zayn on SmackDown to come to RAW and challenge Gunther for a one-on-one match.
Zayn was also John Cena’s last opponent on SmackDown in September, 2025. The match was for Sami’s Intercontinental title, and it ended in a DQ after Brock Lesnar came out and took out both of them. Zayn then lost his US title to a returning Ilja Dragunov on the October 17, 2025 edition of SmackDown. Since then, he hasn’t been seen in action.
However, Sami was seen in attendance at Saturday Night’s Main Event, along with his son, to witness John Cena’s last match in WWE. Cena even hugged Zayn when he came out to wrestle his final match.
There’s no doubt that the two have enormous respect for each other. Therefore, Sami Zayn could be booked to return to action on RAW next week, challenging Gunther to a match to take revenge on behalf of Cena.
As of now, Gunther doesn’t have any opponent in WWE. He is riding high on the success of retiring two WWE legends within six months. He retired Goldberg at SNME in July, and six months later, ended John Cena’s WWE career by making him tap out. His next opponent isn’t locked. It will be interesting to see how the company books him going forward.
Gunther reveals what he did after beating John Cena at WWE SNME
Gunther had a wicked smile on his face after he made Cena tap out. While the entire locker room was out there to pay their last respects to the Champ, Gunther walked out.
During a recent interview with TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Gunther revealed that when all the other superstars and executives were busy paying their tributes to Cena, he decided to just retire to his room.
“As soon as it was done, they had that whole stuff going on in the ring, outside, I just disappeared to my room and stayed out of the commotion and left,” Gunther said.
He said that he soon left after. Gunther even disclosed that he doesn’t talk to many people backstage. He said that he does his stuff and leaves, and doesn’t care what other people think of him or how they judge him.
It now remains to be seen which opponent the company books for Gunther in WWE.
